Would you like to turn your dream of a PhD into a reality?
At the Martingale Foundation we believe that family income should not be a barrier to academic and career advancement, and we are excited to provide scholarship opportunities to support a new generation of STEM postgraduates.

We are currently looking for high performing graduates in maths and related subjects who are keen to undertake postgraduate studies.As a Martingale Scholar, you will receive full funding for a master’s and a PhD, or an integrated PhD, at one of our five partner universities: the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, King’s College London, the University of Oxford and University College London.

The scholarship includes:

  • Funding to cover all tuition fees for a master’s and PhD, or integrated PhD
  • Budget for research activities
  • A tax-free stipend to cover living costs, equivalent to an annual salary of up to £25,000
  • Career development programme, including internship opportunities and industry placements

You will also join a pioneering community of postgraduate students and gain access to a network of leading universities and businesses.

We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply, and we assess and prioritise applications on a case-by-case basis. As part of the application process, you will be asked to tell us in your own words who you are, why you are applying and how family income has been or would be a barrier to you. You will also be asked for your academic transcript, a supporting statement and one referee.

In order to apply, you must:

  • Have achieved or be on track to achieve, a first or upper-second class undergraduate degree in mathematics or a closely related subject
  • Qualify for “Home Fee” status. (To confirm eligibility, please check the guidance about fee status on the UKCISA website)
